The enclosure business,
as it is known today, had its humble beginning right here in Rochester,
NY. In 1958, Bob Lipani was discharged from the army and decided to
get involved with manufacturing a variety of home improvement products.
He bought a franchise from Alcan Aluminum, which included machinery
to produce roll-formed aluminum panels. These panels could be assembled
with aluminum understructure to create an assortment of awnings with
residential and commercial applications. Due to this success, Bob
Lipani went from a one man operation to an established business with
several production employees and three installation crews.
Bob started out as a wholesale manufacturer and
distributor but after four years, he decided to offer his product
directly to homeowners. Also, his company built entryway covers
and enclosures for many Rochester area companies such as: Xerox,
General Electric, Pfaudlers, Rochester General Hospital, Strong
Memorial Hospital, Mobil Oil, and numerous others. Along the way,
Bob did residential work for many industry leaders including Chester
Carlson, the inventor of Xerography.
In 1962, one of his prime suppliers showed him
a product manufactured for the air force (three-inch, insulated
sandwich panel roof system). This supplier asked Bob his input on
designing patio enclosures that incorporated windows and doors.
Before long, the enclosure, as we know it today, was created.
Bob had an inquiry from the Veterans' Administration
to look into the possibility of building two patio rooms for disabled,
bed-ridden veterans who wanted to view the beauty of the outdoors
while still having the protection from the elements. Bob was awarded
the contract and built the first glass enclosure of this type in
the country. Today, the enclosures built by Mr. Enclosure are better
engineered and even more sophisticated.
Bob makes a conscious effort to still go out
and visit customers. It is his passion, a labor of love. Do not
be surprised if he shows up at your doorstep. Take advantage of
his knowledge. Get an education in the process. It is an investment
and should be treated as such.
